"Oh, I've been fine!" she smiled warmly at her friend as she started to absently play with Don's hair. She glanced around and then back at Gabie. "But I feel so bad...the other day, I was out on a hunt when some vampires attacked Donovan...and I wasn't there to help him out...I feel so guilty...I should've felt him in trouble, smelled it in the air...but I don't know why I didn't..." she looked at Don once and then back at her feet with a sad frown. "I should be more careful from now on..." She went to grab her wine in the other room and then headed back into Don's embrace. She sighed softly, almost inaudibly as the DJ played a slow song, and she glanced at Donovan in question.

"Don't worry yourself about it, love," Donovan said softly, rocking gently with her to the beat of the slow tune. "It was only one, and you were occupied..." he trailed off, remembering the incident only too well.
"It's not like there's a whole lot of dogs living on the beach, so you didn't have your normal warning network. There's nothing that would have let you hear my thoughts. But the story has a happy ending. The good guy won the fight, and he even gets the girl in the end." he said, trying to reassure her. "They're going to have to try a hell of a lot harder to keep me away from you, I promise. So no more worries, okay?" he smiled warmly at her.

Iris felt them both rocking back and forth to the song, and she sighed almost inaudibly with contentment. Her eyes closed slowly again, and she moved more into his arms as he talked softly to her, telling her it was okay and not to worry about it.
"Hmm...gets the girl in the end?" she asked teasingly, giggling. "Is that what you think this is? I'm just a prize?" Her eyes sparkled with mischief. He was smiling at her, and she grinned right back with her bright blue eyes locking with his. She moved in sync with his rocking and smiled softly at their form of dancing.

"Ya know," Donovan said laughing, "This is one of those lose-lose situations. If I say that you're no prize, you're gonna get indignant with me. If I say that indeed you are a prize, you're gonna get indignant with me, because I'm thinking you're something I get as a reward."
Donovan leaned in growing more serious, whispering in her ear softly, "You're more than that, Iris. You're the center of my universe. You're the reason why the robins chirp a cheerful tune in spring, and why rainbows appear in the sky after a storm. No, you're not a prize, Iris, you're a treasure."

Iris smiled softly and giggled, nodding innocently at him. He leaned in closer to her, and she caught her breath at the closeness of them together. His scent was overwhelming her again, and she closed her eyes, biting the inside of her lip. He started to talk, and her eyes watered with happiness.
"You're more than that, Iris. You're the center of my universe. You're the reason why the robins chirp a cheerful tune in spring, and why rainbows appear in the sky after a storm. No, you're not a prize, Iris, you're a treasure." Iris opened her eyes again and looked him right in the eyes, her blue eyes turning amber again as she stared at him unwaveringly.
"Um..." she was lost for words, so all she could do was wrap her arms around him and pull him close, breathing him in and smiling to herself. She put her head underneath his softly and stayed there, not wanting to ever let him go. "Thank you, Don..." she finally whispered in his ear. "You are too..."

"I wish I could freeze this moment in time," Don whispered after Iris declared him to be a treasure as well.
He ran a hand along her cheek, holding her tightly against him. "I wasn't kidding earlier, babe. I have everything I need, right here."
"I don't want to let you go," he continued, "Not now, not tomorrow...not ever," he said, giving her a kiss on the forehead.

Iris stood in his arms and sighed happily, feeling his whisper near her ear and agreeing with him, feeling the urge to try her ice elemental power to literally stop the clock so they wold stay there for as long as they wanted...it hurt her that he was mortal and would leave her in the future, while she was stuck as immortal and had to stay on the earth for eternity. She wanted him to stay with her, but she highly doubted he wanted to become a monster like her. She felt his hand trail across her cheek and closed her eyes, feeling one shiver run down her spine. She held him tighter and smiled, her wolf instincts telling her to keep ahold of him.
"I have all I need here..." she echoed him, her voice like a song, soft and melodious. She bit her lip after he kissed her forehead and swallowed hard, enjoying the quick moment and blinking a few times. She looked him in the eye and smiled softly. "Happy Brithday Donovan...hope you got everything you wanted this year..." She met his gaze with a tender smile as she played with his hair again, then let her hands rest on his shoulders softly.

"I got more than I ever could have hoped for," Donovan said. "Unless you've got some sort of time stopping powers that I don't know about. In that case, I want you to use them in 3...2..1..." he said, not really caring that anyone else was there. He leaned in, softly kissing her on the lips, rather than the forehead this time.
The surge that went through him was like pure electricity, pure pleasure. Though it was simply a kiss, his heart hammered impossibly hard and fast in his chest. "Jesus Christ," he thought,"she's the one."

Iris was standing there, her eyebrow raised as he talked about having the power to stop time.
"No, sorry...I don't h..." she began to speak but was cut off as he leaned in and kissed her lips. Her heart stopped for a second before starting to race, just like it did every time she ran as a wolf. Her eyes closed shut tight, and her hands went from his shoulders to wrapping around his neck, and she halfway melted into his arms, not even thinking about it. She was kissing him back, her mind swirling as she thought of nothing else but pure instinct to kiss him back. It was exactly what she wanted, and she continued to kiss him, her heart never slowing. She never thought that kissing someone, especially a human, would send so much energy flowing through her human form as her wolf form did when she ran free.

As much as Donovan might've wished it to last forever, sadly, it had to end. He made it last as long as he could, not wanting to let the impossibly perfect sensation end. Like this, they were one being, devoid of the drama of the world, existing only for each other. With eyes closed, there were no monsters, there were no worries, just them.
However, both werewolves and humans need to breathe, and eventually, the kiss ended. "Wow," Donovan said, nearly speechless. "That...that was....that was perfect," he stammered, trying to find better words, but that was the only one that fit-"perfect".

When he pulled away, she took in a reluctant breath and smiled softly at him, her eyes glimmering with overwhelming happiness. She breathed in and out deeply as she tried to think of what to say.
"Agreed..." she whispered almost inaudibly as she stared up at him. It really was perfect for her. Kissing him made her head spin, but it also made everything feel like it was worth it, like all of her problems were gone. Her heart was still pounding and she smirked up at him, pressing her lips back to his just for a moment before puling away to smile and put her forehead on his, touching noses with him like wolves would do. "Thank you, Don...and the only time stopping I can do is to freeze the clock...but I don't think that will help us..."

"While it might be amusing to watch you freeze a clock," Donovan told her, "It would possibly confuse everyone else here."
Don sighed, still staring into her eyes. "I wish I could spend an eternity with you, Iris. I don't want to know another woman's touch. I don't want another woman's praise. I don't want another woman's smile. I don't know that using a phrase like 'I love you' is really sufficient...because," he paused, trying to collect his thoughts as they spilled out, "Because it doesn't do it justice. "
"I don't know what it is that I'm feeling," he told her, "But it's freaky and frightening and wonderful and beautiful, and I don't want it to stop."

She smirked and nodded, laughing to him easily. He started talking about eternity and then said that "I love you" did not do his feelings for her justice. She smiled wide, her eyes sparkling.
"You know what sucks?" she asked him sadly, her face dropping suddenly as other thoughts whirled through her mind. "I will live for eternity...I'll have to live past everyone else around me...watching Claire, Spero, you...go before me...I'll be alone for the rest of time...because the only way to keep you with me is to make you a monster like me...but I won't do that to you...I can't hurt you...but I think I feel more for you than anything in the world..." She finally mustered up the courage to say it, and her breath caught in her throat at the realization of her true words.

Her words filled him with joy and pain simultaneously. He'd never thought to ask about if she was immortal. He thought that was only vampires.
"Iris, I'd kill for you...I'd die for you...and I'll give up my humanity for you." Donovan whispered, his eyes glistening. The words came out quickly, but it was clear that he knew exactly what he was saying.
"My life meant nothing, until I met you," he said. "All I did was poison lives, and destroy my own....you opened up doors that I never knew existed, and you helped me actually find purpose in my life. You're the most wonderful woman I've ever met. You saved me from myself."

Iris could swear she stopped living at that moment...not that it was possible for her to stop breathing, but still...the things he said were shocking her. She gazed at him, her eyes never wavering as she fought back tears. Her body started to shake, she was so happy. He said he would give up his humanity for her...become a wolf like her...just so he could be with her, she'd never be alone again!
"But...no..." she started to protest weakly, but she knew that saying no wasn't what she really wanted at that moment. "Are you sure you'd give up being human, becoming a hunter like me? Everything would change for you..." She smiled tenderly at him and kissed his forehead softly. "You might want to think about it first..."
