It is the 27th century.
Mankind has achieved their hopes and dreams of the past. The vast industrial machine that is the UEC spans multiple systems, and the colonies are home to millions of colonists and workers. Earth - the hub of the galactic human population - is an overpopulated, polluted rock, but it's home to over eighty percent of the population.
In the central worlds and colonies, you're safe. Piracy and violent crime is well controlled, but as you venture further from the galactic hub things start to change. On the most distant colonies, life can be a fight for survival. Food and water are precious commodities, and so is paid work.
It isn't surprising then, that many colonial citizens and men and women from Earth might want to escape these conditions. That's where the DsECV's get their crew. The Deep Space Exploration and Colonization Vessels are massive - with a compliment of 12,500 crew and a hull the size of a small city.
These vessels traverse the void, pushing the boundaries of human colonization, charting and surveying, before laying down the groundwork for mining operations and colonial settlements. They often spend several years outside of EUC space at a time, making life in the void as desolate as it is dangerous.
Unfortunately - things just got a whole lot worse. You are a crew member aboard the DsECV 'Nomad' (AKA 'Deep Six'). You've just woken up, and have no recollection of going to sleep.
The whole ship is bathed in the dim red glow of the emergency lighting, it's dark, cold and quiet. You're all alone, you can't find anyone - all you can see are signs of violent struggle, and bloodstains on the walls.
Who will you become as the darkness closes in all around you?
Will you find other survivors or strike out alone?
Will you unravel the mysteries of Deep Six, or be lost to the unthinking darkness of the void?
