The year is 2011. In this world there are monsters and demons that lurk in the darkness of the night, hunting the living and stalking in the shadows. There are also monsters working right down the block in the local accounting office. They're bakers, lawyers, policemen. The innocent world of yesteryear is gone, making way for a new and bold world that acknowledges and even gives rights the monsters it used to fear.
Welcome to St. Duvall, Texas, a small town nestled on the coast not far from Galveston, near miles and miles of beautiful, scenic beaches. It looks like your normal, sleeply little town. The old ladies get together after church at the local coffeeshop to gossip about the latest town dirt. Old men sit outside the barbershop, playing checkers and cursing at each other. Men and women comb the weekend marketplace to see what kind of bargains they can find. It just seems like a normal little town found anywhere.
But it's not exactly that normal.
It is the home of Teratos Academy, a private school built by and run by shifters for preternatural kids. Shifter children, early infections, vampire foster kids, they all attend school here. They are taught not only the basics of normal school, but also how to control themselves and their new-found powers and abilities during a time where their bodies are changing enough as it is. The town of St. Duvall became a booming town thanks to the influx of preternaturals moving there to allow their children to attend school at Teratos. The transition from sleepy little town to a hub of the preternatural community seemed smooth in St. Duvall.
But do not be fooled by appearences alone. Even as the shifters, vampires, faes, mages, and psychics were moving in, there was unhappiness amongst the current population. People who remember when their town was 'clean'. People who are not afraid of making their unhappiness known to the town and the world beyond.
No, St. Duvall definately is not your adverage town, but it is a nice place to live.
